Reiki (pronounced Rey-Key) is an ancient healing art. Originally from Tibet it was lost and then re-discovered in the late 19th Century by Master Usui in Japan. An 'energy therapy' it is completely natural and promotes the body's regenerative self healing ability. The word Reiki means Universal Energy and has been recognised by eastern medicine for thousands of years. Universal Energy flows through all living things and is vital to well-being. You may have already heard of Ki (Japan), Chi (China) and Prana (India) which are all words for Universal Energy. Accupuncture, Tai Chi and Yoga are also based on the free-flow of this energy in a person and Feng Shui directs this energy by placement of objects.
Reiki is a non-invasive therapy which treats holistically and returns balance to our energy and physical bodies. It is very gentle and a powerful complementary therapy that may be used with confidence alongside orthodox healthcare.

What happens during a session?
A session is usually carried out with the client lying down or sitting, in a comfortable and peaceful environment. There is no need to remove any clothing as Reiki energy passes easily through all materials, including plaster casts! The practioner gently places their hands on or over the body and the client draws in only as much as energy as is needed. Reiki may be experienced as a flow of energy, mild tingling, warmth, coolness, other sensations, or nothing at all - it will vary from client to client and session to session. Any treatment may be enhanced if you can rest for a while afterwards and drink plenty of water to aid the detoxification process. Be responsive to your body's needs, e.g. resting if tired and allowing the energy to continue its work in the days following the session as beneficial effects may be felt for several days. A typical session will last about an hour.
Frequency of Treatments
Even one Reiki session may make a difference; however a course of regular treatments may be more effective. These could be weekly, fortnightly or less often depending on your needs - this will be discussed with you and a treatment plan devised and reviewed regularly.
Dawn is qualified to Reiki Level II and is a Practioner member of the UK Reiki Federation. Dawn studied Reiki Level 1 with Patricia Chalkley of Littlehummingbirds and Reiki Level II with Susan Gardner of Spiritual Odyssey.
